A 19-year-old man has been remanded in custody for five days by Limassol District Court following his appearance before a judge on Sunday, in connection with the alleged rape and sexual abuse of a 14-year-old girl who gave birth last year, In-Cyprus reports.

How the Case Came to Light

The case first came to the attention of authorities on 5 November 2025, when the girl was admitted to Limassol hospital suffering from severe pain. Examining doctors discovered she was 34 weeks pregnant and delivered the baby immediately. Hospital staff subsequently notified police, who opened a formal investigation.

Following her discharge from hospital, the girl was placed in a children's shelter for her protection and welfare.

Investigation and Identification of Suspect

In her initial contact with investigators, the girl said she did not know the identity of the father. However, over the course of three further interviews, she disclosed to investigators that the pregnancy had resulted from rape, providing a description of the alleged perpetrator and a detailed account of the incident.

Working from the information she provided, investigators conducted extensive inquiries that ultimately led them to identify and arrest the 19-year-old suspect.

Charges

The suspect now faces a serious set of charges. According to In-Cyprus, these include:

  • Sexual abuse of a minor
  • Rape
  • Abduction for the purpose of unlawful detention
  • Threats
  • Possession of a knife

Limassol District Court remanded the suspect in custody for five days, during which investigators are expected to advance the formal charging process.

What Happens Next

The five-day remand period provides authorities with time to complete their inquiries and prepare the case for prosecution. The identity of the minor victim is protected under Cypriot law, and neither the girl nor the newborn child has been named in connection with the proceedings. Further court hearings are expected once the remand period concludes.
