Fire Breaks Out in Engomi Apartment Due to Oil Heater
A fire ignited by an oil heater on the balcony of an apartment in Engomi, Nicosia, was swiftly controlled by the Fire Service, causing damage to an air conditioning compressor and balcony wall paint.
The Cyprus Fire Service responded to numerous calls for assistance between February 8 and February 15, 2026, including 89 fires, 90 special services, and 15 false alarms. According to Fire Service spokesperson Andreas Kettis, from February 15 to February 16, 2026, the service handled 32 calls, including 14 fires. Among these incidents, a fire was reported at 08:53 in an apartment located on the third floor of a building in Engomi, Nicosia. Three fire trucks and a hydraulic telescopic platform from the Nicosia Fire Stations were dispatched to the scene, and the fire was brought under control by 09:25. The blaze originated from an oil heater on the apartment's balcony, affecting an air conditioning compressor and causing smoke damage to the balcony's wall paint. Building occupants had preemptively evacuated the premises before the arrival of the fire services. The fire was sparked by the ignition of the oil heater on the balcony.
