How Leader Charts are built

Leader Charts is CyprusNews.ai’s collection of eight charts on AI adoption, model training and AI-linked markets — for Cyprus, Greece and the EU-27. Every number comes from a named public source; this page explains what we do, what we deliberately don’t do, and where the numbers come from.

We fetch data directly from public APIs and datasets — Eurostat, Epoch AI, Hugging Face Hub, EuroHPC JU, OpenRouter and Yahoo Finance — republish it with its licence and attribution, and refresh it on the cadence each source actually updates. Every chart states its source, licence, data vintage and when we last fetched it.

We do not run our own AI benchmarks, evaluations or leaderboards, and we do not estimate, interpolate or guess a number that a source hasn’t published. Where a chart has no live data — a missing API key, a source outage, or a genuinely first-edition survey — it says so plainly instead of showing a placeholder number.

How we calculate movement

For charts with a comparable prior period, movement is the change in rank or value against the newest saved snapshot that is at least seven days old — never against yesterday, which would exaggerate day-to-day noise. Where no such snapshot exists yet, or a chart has no prior year at all (like the first-edition generative-AI survey), we show an em dash or a “no prior year” label rather than inventing a zero.

Reading the two Cyprus numbers together

Two figures on this site can look contradictory at first glance: 9.27% of Cyprus enterprises with 10 or more employees use AI (23rd of 27 in the EU), while 44.2% of people in Cyprus use generative AI tools (7th of 27). Both are correct. They come from two different Eurostat surveys measuring two different populations — businesses in one case, individuals in the other — and neither number should be read as “leading” or “lagging” Europe on AI as a whole.

Known limits

Hugging Face Hub’s terms for reproducing model metadata are not formally verified for redistribution; we treat downloads and likes as attribution-only.
Yahoo Finance’s quote data comes through an unofficial, rate-limited API, not a licensed market-data feed — an individual ticker can occasionally drop out.
The Greek open-models list is a curated sample of models from ILSP/Athena RC and AUEB’s NLP group plus a small number of verified additions — not an exhaustive inventory.
The EU AI Factories list is a hand-curated snapshot of EuroHPC’s own published pages, dated 2026-09-12, refreshed when EuroHPC announces new selection rounds — not a live feed.

Sources we deliberately don’t use

Artificial Analysis — its terms bar reproducing its data in any tabular or machine-readable format at every access tier.
LMArena, LiveBench, Scale SEAL, SWE-bench and ARC Prize — none publishes a machine-readable endpoint we could build a chart on.
OpenRouter’s model pricing endpoint — it works without a key, but OpenRouter’s reuse licence covers only its separate Data API datasets, so we don’t build a chart on pricing without a clearer licence.
